Junior Associates

A new branch on the Cedars tree Junior Associates of the Cedars Cancer Institute

Cancer is an issue that demands every generation's attention and commitment. The Junior Associates of the Cedars Cancer Institute recognize this and believe it is time to spread the word: youth cares, youth is compassionate, youth is committed to touching the lives of those in need.

Cedars Junior Associates or JACCI - as they are affectionately referred to - is a group of dedicated students and business professionals determined to do their part in making a difference in the lives of cancer patients. They are committed to fulfilling their mission to raise significant funds that will provide support to young people fighting the battle against cancer, while raising cancer awareness among the younger generation, all in an environment reflecting empathy and the highest standards of compassion.

In order to accomplish its mission, JACCI's activities will engage young Cedars supporters aged 18-45 and put a contemporary twist on fundraising activities. Stay tuned for the exciting list of events and new projects.

Proceeds will go to support Cedars CanSupport and the MUHC Adolescent and Young Adult Program as well as assist other important Cedars ventures.

Fundraising Events Main Event

Over the past few years, the Juniors have organized a semi-formal ball. With the support of various forms of media, sponsors, and over 500 partygoers, the Junior Associates have been able to raise funds for cancer while increasing awareness.

Holiday Baskets

Each December, holiday baskets are given to several families affected by cancer. These baskets are filled with food, clothes, and other necessary items and gifts that help brighten up the lives of these families.

Accomplishments

The highlights of our efforts are visible in the areas of patient care and oncology facilities. Approximately $100,000 of proceeds raised have helped fund the renovation and expansion of the Edward J. Tabah Oncology Day Centre, an outpatient clinic where cancer patients receive chemotherapy, medical care, and other treatments. Funds have also been donated for an Ultrasound machine, used for detecting breast cancer, for the Cedars Breast Cancer Centre. The Junior Associates funded the improvement and enhancement of patient surroundings in the 7 Medical Cancer Ward, by providing the extras such as TV's, VCR's, movies, books, computers with Internet, stereos, games and exercise equipment. Last, but not least, the Junior Associates provided funds for the purchase of new equipment for prostate cancer and breast cancer. JACCI will continue the longstanding tradition along with Cedars volunteer Grace Battah of providing holiday baskets to families in financial need who are stricken with cancer.

If you are interested in becoming a member of JACCI or volunteering for any of their upcoming events, they would love to hear from you! Please contact cedarscancerinstitute@muhc.mcgill.ca .
