Dear Friends of Cedars,
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit. This website has been specifically designed to give our readers a comprehensive understanding of the many components which, when put together make up the Cedars Cancer Institute at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
For nearly half a century, the Cedars Cancer Institute has grown from a fledgling grassroots fund to an independent, mission-based cancer foundation, helping thousands of people along the way who are grappling with the ill effects of cancer. Cedars has been able to provide vital and compassionate support for cancer patients, their loved ones, and the medical professionals who care for them.
Over the years, Cedars has provided much-needed funds for a variety of oncology related initiatives. We have purchased state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and have improved facilities for the treatment and care of cancer patients, including support for our renowned comprehensive Cedars Breast Clinic, a major regional and supra-regional referral centre for patients diagnosed with breast disease.
Our commitment to cancer research, education and awareness is fulfilled through our popular Cedars CanSupport “News You Can Use” free Public Lecture series, the Dr. Edward J. Tabah and Vivian Saykaly Visiting Professorships, and also through our Dr. Henry R. Shibata Cedars Fellowships in Oncology Research.
Our Cedars CanSupport program continues to lead the way in providing emotional, practical, psychological and financial assistance, the latter through The Wilfrid Howick Humanitarian Fund.
At Cedars, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of all MUHC cancer patients, from young to old. Sarah’s Fund is dedicated to pediatric oncology, while Cedars CanSupport meets the needs of our adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients. From pediatric to geriatric, from initial diagnosis through to survivorship or palliation, Cedars is there for patients and their families at every step of their cancer journey.
We have accomplished so much, but there is still so much more to do, and never before has there been such an immediate urgency for our help. It is through the generosity of our many donors and the dedication of caring individuals that we have been able to endow the numerous projects for which Cedars’ assistance was solicited throughout the years.
Dear Friends, Cedars simply could not exist without your help. We have been an integral part of the community for almost 50 years and shall remain committed to making a difference in the fight against this dreaded disease.
We continue to build upon the foundation that has helped establish Cedars as a primary contributor to today’s most important initiatives in oncology right here in Montreal. It inspires us to know that the projects we support will continue to provide the best possible care in oncology at the MUHC.
We thank you for your continued support,
Bruce Shadeed
