Maritime Lobster Fest
May 30th, 2009  6:00 pm
Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club

Fueled by the enthusiasm of a bunch of friends, what started out as an east coast kitchen party in the co-chairs' home quickly grew into a Maritime Lobster Fest at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club to benefit The Cedars Cancer Institute.

The night will begin with cocktails on the Yacht Club's patio as the sun sets over Lac St. Louis.  As the sailboats drift by, knee slapping Maritime fiddle music will be playing in the background.  150 dinner guests will usher in the summer by cracking fresh lobsters, shipped in from Bathurst, New Brunswick that very morning.  Guests will be professional, business and community members from Montreal and the West Island.  Things will pick up when Preville Big Band will play all your favourite dance tunes from Motown to the classics.

Generous sponsors have joined in to make this event possible.  Other companies and individuals have been generous in donating unique prizes such as; a day cruise on a brand new Beneteau 423, a two hour flight on a Piper Arrow, a vacation at an ocean-side cottage in New Brunswick and a shopping spree at Fairview Shopping Centre.  Marc Arnautovitch and Sandra Robbins along with friends Sue Beatty, Nicole Boudreau, Joanne Smith, David C. Smilth, Tina Marier, Jane Nimigon and Paul Nimigon are busy rounding up numerous other prizes for guests to take home that evening.

The support from our sponsors, local buisnesses and ticket sales have been overwhelming!

Breast Cancer Awareness Week
May 11th - May 15th, 2009

Villa Maria High School is proud to hold its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week. Being in an all-girls school, the students at Villa Maria were particularly touched by this disease when one of their teachers was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago.

Through hard work, dedication, and commitment, the students set up a week of activities appealing to all grade levels. The various activities include a bake sale, a pink dress-down day, selling Smoothies and ice cream, giving mini-manicures,  as well as inviting two very important guest speakers: Dr. David Fleiszer , renowned surgeon of the Cedars Breast Clinic and Anna Capobianco-Skipworth, member of Two Abreast dragon boat team and speaker at various organizations.

The main event this year will feature our very own pastoral animator, Miguel Benavides, who has agreed to get his head shaved if the students raise $7,000.00.

And the challenge is on!
