About Mamma Mia Women's Association

The Mamma Mia Women Association is dedicated to helping Cedars raise funds for important causes regarding breast cancer awareness. Operating under the philosophy that every little bit counts and together we can achieve the greatest results, Mamma Mia Women's Association strives to help breast cancer patients and their families. For the past 5 years, this talented group has hosted an Annual Evening to celebrate woman and raise much needed funds for the Cedars Breast Clinic. The Cedars Breast Clinic provides state-of-the-art care for over 20,000 women per year with nine surgeons, five radiologists, three specialized nurses and six radiology technicians. We offer 'one stop' comprehensive care at absolutely no cost to women with breast health concerns.

Last year,  their fifth, they raised $53,500! Approximately 1000 wonderful women gathered at Centre de Reception on May 11th, 2007 for a raffle, delicious 5 course dinner, followed by an evening of entertainment and dancing. Again, they chose the Cedars Breast Clinic of the MUHC as the recipients of the event and will direct their donation to the purchase of a much-needed new hand-held gamma probe for sentinel node mapping. This equipment will allow us to offer minimally invasive approaches to diagnosis and staging to women with newly diagnosed breast cancer. The gamma-finder permits the surgeon to remove only one or two nodes in the axilla, thus saving women from complications such as lymphedema and shoulder pain. Cedars is very grateful to this talented group and its dynamic president, Maria Gervasi, for their incredible work.

Now this group is hard at work on this year's fundraising event which will take place on Friday, May 9th, 2008 at Centre de Congrès Renaissance which is located at 7550, boulevard Henri-Bourassa est. This year's event sounds like it is going to be even bigger and better than ever. All those interested in attending or donating to Mamma Mia can call the Cedars office at 514-843-1606.
