Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal to support Cedars Cancer Institute initiatives
at the MUHC and CHUM
Montreal, June 29, 2010 – The Cedars Cancer Institute welcomed enthusiastically today’s official announcement that the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal has made it its charity-of-choice. In partnering with the Cedars Cancer Institute, the Grand Prix Cycliste will generate funds for two of Quebec’s most important academic health centres: the Cancer Care Mission of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the Cancer and Heart Wellness programs of the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM).
“The Cedars Cancer Institute is ever so grateful to Mr. Serge Arsenault, the event organizer, and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal organization for their goodwill and generosity,” stated
Stephen Hajaly, president of The Cedars Cancer Institute. “Thank you for sharing our vision for a better day for cancer patients and their families who are being treated at the MUHC and CHUM.” The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal is one of two inaugural North American UCI Protour events that will attract elite cyclists to compete over a 206-km city circuit featuring Mont-Royal. The Grand Prix Cycliste and Cedars will invite cycling enthusiasts, businesses and individuals to join their exclusive Leaders’ Club and experience the exciting event from the VIP vantage. Proceeds from the $2,000 Leaders’ Club membership will go directly towards The Cedars Cancer Institute and its charity initiatives at the MUHC and CHUM.
“This premiere cycling event will unite the world’s finest cyclists and sports aficionados with some of the world’s finest medical professionals and investigators,” underlined the Hon. Arthur T. Porter, MUHC Director General and CEO. “We are honoured that The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal has selected Cedars and the MUHC will spin their success into a healthy difference for people the world over.”
CHUM Director General Christian Paire added “The CHUM is very pleased to be taking part for the first time in a world-class event like this that gives medical professionals a remarkable opportunity to significantly promote health through the great sport of cycling.”
The Cedars Cancer Institute has been selected as the Grand Prix Cycliste’s charity-of-choice presenting a prime opportunity that will help Cedars to continue to provide compassion, programs, facilities and vital care for cancer patients and their families in this great province.
