Celebrating International Women’s Day - Les Canadiennes
International Women’s Day on March 8th is a day spent recognizing women of all ages and celebrating their achievements globally.
Today we choose to shine a spotlight on Les Canadiennes de Montreal, a group of exceptional women who not only demonstrate their leadership on the ice but off as well. They recently won the Clarkson Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women’s Hockey Championship of the CWHL. It takes a team of dedicated players to achieve such a prestigious award and on behalf of the Cedars Cancer Foundation, we wish to extend our most heartfelt congratulations to the team, bravo!
Last month, Saturday, February 4th, Les Canadiennes laced up their skates for their 7th Annual Pink in the Rink game. That Saturday also marked World Cancer Day which made the event that much more special. Sporting pink jerseys for breast cancer, they faced off against the Toronto Furies in a thrilling shut out performance of 2-0. During intermission between periods, fans bid on an array of items including signed pictures and hockey sticks, hockey tickets and pink jerseys all of which will benefit the Wellness Initiative of the Cedars Breast Clinic.
By choosing the Cedars Breast Clinic Wellness Initiative to be the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts, they are ensuring that women receive much needed social, physical and psychological support in addition to their ongoing treatments and follow up. Programs offered by the Wellness Initiative include psycho-oncology, exercise, lymphedema therapy and breast cancer education which are all free of charge to the women. There really is no better way to celebrate international women’s day than by recognizing a group of fearless women supporting other courageous women.
