On November 16, 2017, the Cedars Cancer Foundation held its 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Emceed by the President and CEO, Jeff Shamie, the AGM was an opportunity to report on the foundation’s financial performance and accomplishments, including many successful signature and third-party fundraising events, major gifts, new governance mechanisms and support for clinical care, research and education. The foundation also presented appreciation awards to volunteers for going beyond for cancer patients and their families.
Board Chair, Mark Saykaly, underscored that “a foundation is only as strong as the people who contribute to it”, thanking all present for doing their share to make Cedars a leader in philanthropic initiatives. He noted that the foundation has its ear to the ground and eye on the future to meet the cancer-related needs of the community, adding that Cedars works directly with Dr. Armen Aprikian, Chief of the MUHC Cancer Care Mission, to define priority needs. Board Co-chair and 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign Co-chair Bruce Shadeed added that the capital campaign was progressing well and thanked Co-chairs Michael Flinker and Andrew Lutfy for their leadership. Fellowship and Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Roger Tabah, presented the Award of Merit and Recognition for Outstanding Leadership and Dedication in Oncology to Rosemary O’Grady, former Nurse Manager, Palliative and Supportive Care Services, at the Cedars Cancer Centre of the McGill University Health Centre.
