A Memorial Service was held at the Loyola Chapel of Concordia University on October 15 for Matt “Terry” Santateresa

A Memorial Service was held at the Loyola Chapel of Concordia University on October 15 for Matt “Terry” Santateresa. Terry was a Montrealer through and through, a poet, painter and retired employee and alumnus of Concordia. He was the loving husband of Isabel Belina, and stepfather of Martin and Paula. Terry’s cancer was discovered only in June, and he passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care ward of the RVH on October 2nd.
Terry’s last poetry project was Chernobyl Blue, a meditation on the human and environmental toll surrounding the worst nuclear disaster in history. As he was preparing it for publication Terry decided he would like to use it as a vehicle for raising donations for the Cedars Cancer Foundation at his eventual memorial service. He hoped to live long enough to see its publication, the “chapbook” in fact arrived from the publisher a few days after his death.

Terry’s service on the 15th was a large and wonderful gathering of friends and family, filled with poetry, choral music from his beloved wife’s various ensembles, and touching remembrances. At the service we announced that Terry wanted to offer Chernobyl Blue to his friends and family in exchange for donations to the Cedars Cancer Foundation. The response was overwhelming and $1965.00 was raised.

Terry and Isabel have been faithful and generous supporters of the CIBC 401 Bike Challenge since 2012 when a friend of theirs started participating in that charity ride for Sarah’s Fund. In keeping with that connection they chose to donate this efforts proceeds to the 401 Bike Challenge, and thus Sarah’s Fund at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Isabel, and I’m sure Terry as well, are grateful for the generosity and love they have experienced from so many.
