Celebrating a truly remarkable women, Kim Winnicki.

Kim Huay Ng-Winnicki was an exceptional woman and oncology nurse who worked at the old Royal Victoria Hospital for close to 40 years.

She was described as down to earth, warm, brave and above all, she expressed sincere love for everyone she met. Kim had the incredible ability of being able to bring people together, from all areas of her life, over food. It is worth noting that she was a huge Montreal Canadians fan and everyone who knew her believed that she was destined to coach the team one day. Kim set a wonderful example for all nurses and peers as she dedicated her life to helping others fight their various cancer battles. Patients and staff still speak very fondly of Kim and remember her laughter, her positive demeanor and the beauty that she saw in the world. Her name, “Huay” meant “beautiful flower”, and what a beautiful flower she was. Her collaboration between the team and families was invaluable. Kim was a strong clinical nurse, and her compassionate and empathetic nature made her an incredibly special nurse.
Unfortunately, she left us too early after battling a brave fight with her own cancer. March 18th is Kim’s birthday and our Oncology nurses still acknowledge and celebrate her life every year.   “Mama Kim” as she is best known by her friends and colleagues, is watching over them as her legacy lives on.

The Kim Winnicki Legacy Fund was created by Kim’s husband, Wojtek Winnicki, and her family. They wanted to make a lasting contribution to the Oncology Day Center and to support Nursing Education in Oncology. This fund will give nurses the flexibility and support for areas of greatest need that will help advance Oncology-Hematology nursing education, research and practice. It will also provide nurses with financial support to attend CME conferences, workshops and seminars.

Please join us on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the new Cedars Cancer Centre Foundation Kiosk located on DS1, as we celebrate this truly remarkable woman and the official launch of the Kim Winnicki Legacy Fund.
